DAY 1-2: HO CHI MINH CITY — CU CHI TUNNELS
A vast network of subterranean passages, the tunnels of Cu Chi played a significant role during combat.The Viet Cong used them as hiding places,food and weapon caches, and even living quarters,and the tunnels' extensive reach meant they could be used as communication and supply routes, as well.Table your fear of small spaces and set out on a tour that takes you through a camouflaged trapdoor in the heart of the jungle for a firsthand look at what living conditions were like in these narrow halls.
HIGHLIGHTS:
1. Visit Reunification Palace, Notre Dame Cathedral and Central Post Office.
2. Explore Cu Chi Tunnels.
DAY 3-4: HUE
Hue was badly damaged by fierce urban warfare that followed North Vietnamese Army’s surprise Lunar New Year attack on January 1968,but there’s still much to see of the citadel from where emperors ruled for 150 years.
HIGHLIGHTS:
1. Explore Imperial City.
2. Visit Hamburger Hill, A Shau Valley and Ho Chi Minh Trails.
DAY 5: HUE — QUANG TRI
As fierce battlefront in the war against the invasion of the Vietnamese people in the 20th century, Quang Tri store a system of monumental and unique historical sites, attracting domestic and foreign tourists as historical relics in Hien Luong riverbank, Vinh Moc Tunnels, Quang Tri Citadel and so on.
HIGHLIGHTS:
1. Explore the Former demilitarized zone (DMZ), Khe Sanh Combat Base, Doc Mieu Base, Ben Hai River, Con Thien Fire Base, Dakrong Bridge and Lang Vei Special Forces Camp.
2. Enjoy dinner in Hue with Royal music show.
DAY 6-8: DANANG — HOI AN — HANOI
Central Vietnam was one of the heaviest affected regions of the country during the American War. There is little evidence of fighting at many of the war sites nowadays, but several spots remain fascinating for history buffs.
HIGHLIGHTS:
1. Visit Hai Van Pass, Marble Mountains, My Khe Beach.
2. Explore Chu Lai(former U.S Marine Corps base), Former Marine Regimental Headquarters and easternmost combat base known as LZ Baldy/Hill 63.
3. Visit Hoi An Ancient Town, Ba Na Hills, Golden Bridge and Son Tra Peninsula.
DAY 9-11: HALONG BAY — HANOI
One of the best historic attractions in these 3 days is Hoa Lo Prison. The French called it Maison Central, a generic name for a colonial prison. The Vietnamese knew it as Hỏa Lò, which translates to “fiery furnace,” after the wood stove shops common in the surrounding neighborhood. Westerners know it best as the Hanoi Hilton. Whatever its name, the notorious prison housed a century of torture within its walls.
